Crystal OffsetThe crystal offset allows the experimenter to easily change the orientation
of the sample while keeping it at cryogenic temperatures. The SSRL
cryo-pin is first removed from the cryo-stream with precooled cryo-tongs
and stored in liquid nitrogen. The Hampton magnet is replaced by
the crystal offset and then the sample pin is replaced. Using the
crystal offset, the crystal is 20 degrees from the original orientation
and remains centered in the cryo-stream. The offset works best if the crystal/loop
is mounted approximately 21 mm from the bottom of the ssrl style pin or
20 mm from the magnet face.
